WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today released the following statement after joining Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Caucus Chairman John Larson, and Assistant to the Leader Chris Van Hollen and other Democratic Members in a press conference held to discuss Democrats’ Make it in America Agenda.
“Democrats are standing together to promote our ‘Make it in America’ agenda. America’s manufacturing sector is the heart of our economy and we need to ensure it continues to grow and remain prosperous. This is why Democrats are focusing on passing legislation that will promote American competitiveness, innovation, and exports.
“Just this week we passed the SECTORS Act which supports industry partnerships to train workers and help them advance in high-demand and emerging industries. We also approved a strongly bipartisan bill that helps U.S. manufacturers compete at home and abroad. And those are just the start. We are working to preserve and expand good manufacturing jobs here in America, cut the cost of doing business in this country, promote green manufacturing, and enhance our national security by rebuilding the domestic manufacturing sector.
“Republican leadership continues to fight for a return to the failed policies of the Bush administration. While they want to return to the policies that nearly doubled the national debt, Democrats are putting forth a strategy to move forward. Our focus on small businesses and U.S. manufacturers will bolster the economy where we most need it—here at home.”
